God on the Streets of Gotham Thicker than Blood Walking with Bilbo
God on the Streets of Gotham Thicker than Blood Walking with Bilbo
Paul Asay C. J. Darlington Sarah Arthur
What do God and the Caped Crusader have in common? While Batman is a secular superhero patrolling the fictional streets of Gotham City, the Caped Crusader is one whose story creates multiple opportunities for believers to talk about the redemptive spiritual truths of Christianity. Christy Williams finally has her life on track. She's putting her past behind her and working hard to build a career as an antiquarian book buyer. But things begin to unravel when a stolen Hemingway first edition is found in her possession, framing her for a crime she didn't commit. The author of Walking with Frodo takes readers on an adventure of faith with this devotional that relates themes from J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit to living the Christian life. Unlike the fateful quest Frodo was asked to carry out, Bilbo's journey came as an unexpected adventure. Readers will be reminded that God chooses us to be unlikely heroes in the adventure of life.

Asking for Trouble
Christi Paul Matthew Sleeth Sandra Byrd
Like millions of other women, HLN anchor Christi Paul blamed herself for the emotional abuse heaped on her by her first husband, whose violent, profanity-laced tirades left her feeling as though she had no value, no self-worth, and nowhere to turn for help. In 24/6, Dr. Matthew Sleeth describes our symptoms, clarifies the signs, diagnoses the illness, and lays out a simple plan for living a healthier, more God-centered life in a digitally-dazed, always-on world. London Confidential is a new series where British fashion, friendships, and guys collide, and where an all-American girl learns to love life and live out her faith.

December is full of light. Christmas lights line the streets in my small town, my Christmas tree is glittering, and soon, there will be sparkling snow everywhere.

Of course, there is that other glow—the smaller one that I keep around all year: the light of my e-reader. This month, there's no shortage of e-book deals to keep that light burning. To commemorate the release of The Hobbit on the big screen and The Dark Night Rises on the small screen, check out Walking with Bilbo and God on the Streets of Gotham. If you're looking for some great fiction to pass the long winter nights with, download Thicker than Blood, Asking for Trouble, or Book of the King. If you'd like some nonfiction titles to encourage you as we go into the New Year, take a look at Love Isn't Supposed to Hurt and 24/6.

As you string your Christmas lights and fill your e-reader, don't forget the real glow of this season comes from remembering the birth of our Savior. Merry Christmas!
